Jacket leathers by grade, finish and weight

Garment leather is thinner and softer than bag or footwear leather. Most jackets use leather around 0.6 to 1.0 mm thick; heavier moto styles can go to about 1.2 mm for a firmer, more protective feel.

Leather jacket manufacturer FAQs

What is the MOQ for private label leather jackets?

MOQ depends on the style, the leather and the number of colours and sizes. Using stock leather colours keeps the minimum lower than custom-dyed leather.

Which leather is best for a leather jacket?

Nappa is the most popular choice for its soft drape and smooth finish. Washed or vintage finishes suit casual styles, while waxed or pull-up leather gives a rugged, characterful look. We recommend a finish once we know your style and price point.

Can AFIL grade jackets to our size chart?

Yes. We build patterns to your measurements and grade them across your full size range for men's and women's styles. A size set is sampled and approved before bulk production starts.

Can AFIL develop a jacket from a reference garment?

Yes. Send us a jacket from your current range and we can develop a pattern from it. We can also suggest changes to fit, leather or trims to meet a new price point.

How long does jacket development and production take?

It depends on style complexity, leather sourcing and order size. We confirm the bulk schedule when the pre-production sample is approved.

Do you make jackets in leather alternatives?

Yes. Alongside responsibly sourced leathers we can work with PU and other eco-conscious alternatives. We can sample both so you can compare hand-feel.

Has AFIL won any awards for leather garments?

Yes. AFIL received the Council for Leather Exports (CLE) Export Award for 2023-24, taking 2nd place in the Leather Garments category.

Can you ship leather jackets to the UK, EU and US?

Yes. Qualifying leather garments with proof of origin can enter the UK duty-free under the India-UK trade agreement in force since July 2026. EU duty cuts follow once the India-EU agreement is ratified, and US duties follow the 2026 interim framework. Confirm your exact duty with a customs broker.
