Shoe construction options

Construction affects a shoe's flexibility, weight, durability, repairability and cost. Cemented construction bonds the sole to the upper with adhesive; it is light, flexible and cost-efficient, and is used across sneakers, casual shoes and fashion styles. Stitched constructions, such as stitchdown, Blake and Goodyear welt, attach the sole with stitching for added durability and, in some cases, the option to resole.

Private label and customisation for footwear

  • Your design or ours: develop from your tech pack or adapt styles from our sample collection
  • Fit: last shape and size range agreed with you at the start, for men's and women's sizing
  • Branding: embossed or printed sock-lining logos, branded outsoles, heel tabs and metal trims
  • Materials: leather, lining, sole and colour combinations to your specification
  • Packaging: custom shoe boxes, tissue, dust bags and carton labelling

If you are launching a footwear label, our guide on starting a leather shoe brand with OEM manufacturing covers the basics, and our private label manufacturing service explains how we work with brands.

How footwear development works

  1. Brief. Share your tech pack, sketches or reference pairs, target price, quantities and season.
  2. Last and materials. We agree the last, size range, leathers, linings and soles with you.
  3. Prototype and fitting. Our pattern and sample room makes the first pairs for fit and look; we revise until approved.
  4. Sales samples and size run. Sample collections are ready about 12 months ahead of season; a size run confirms fit across sizes.
  5. Production and shipment. Cutting, closing, lasting, soling, finishing, inspection and packing. For in-season needs, quick re-assortment is possible for a season starting in about four months.

Quality checks for every pair

  • Leather and components: thickness, colour and surface checked on arrival; soles and trims checked against spec.
  • Cutting and closing: matched pieces for each pair, even stitching on uppers and clean edges.
  • Lasting and bonding: correct shape on the last and secure sole attachment.
  • Pair matching: left and right shoes matched for colour, height and shape.
  • Final inspection: size marking, finish, cleanliness and packing checked against the approved sample.

Who we make footwear for

  • Footwear and fashion brands running seasonal collections
  • Retail chains and department stores with private label shoe programs
  • New and boutique labels building a first footwear range
  • Importers and wholesalers supplying markets in North America, the UK and Europe

Leather shoe manufacturer FAQs

What types of leather shoes does AFIL make?

AFIL makes men's and women's boots and ankle boots, casual shoes (sneakers, moccasins, ballerinas, espadrilles), classic lace-ups and heeled shoes, comfort shoes, sandals including wedge and platform styles, flip-flops, slippers and clogs.

How far ahead of the season should we start development?

For a new collection, start about 12 months ahead of the season; that is when our sample collections are developed. For re-orders or quick production, we can work to a season starting in about four months.

What is the minimum order quantity for private label shoes?

MOQ depends on the style, materials and size range. Using stock leathers and existing soles usually allows lower quantities.

Which shoe constructions do you offer?

We recommend a construction based on the style, the wear you expect and your target price.

Do you make shoes in your own factory?

Yes. AFIL is a direct producer. All footwear is made in our own Footwear Division factory at C-30, Sector-58, Noida, so development and production stay under one management.

Can you put our brand on the shoes and boxes?

Yes. We offer branded sock linings, outsoles, heel tabs and trims, plus custom shoe boxes, tissue and dust bags. Every pair ships under your label.

Can AFIL ship footwear to the UK, EU and US?

Yes. Qualifying leather footwear with proof of origin can enter the UK duty-free under the India-UK trade agreement in force since July 2026. EU duty cuts follow once the India-EU agreement is ratified, and US duties follow the 2026 interim framework. Confirm your exact duty with a customs broker.
